Actor Luke Wilson hailed as hero in Los Angeles car crash

Luke Wilson has had a long, successful career making moviegoers laugh at his understated, wry humor and offbeat characters. But there was nothing funny about Wilson's recent quick thinking and action after a violent Los Angeles car crash.

Wilson pulled a 50-year-old woman from her smoking, upended vehicle after it was struck by an out-of-control, fish-tailing Ferrari. The driver of the sports car was killed in the crash.

Wilson's vehicle was clipped in the three-car deadly Pacific Palisades crash, but the actor was not injured.

The woman he rescued from her BMW was hospitalized with serious injuries, news reports stated.

A witness to the violent crash said the Ferrari accelerated and its driver lost control, with the back end of the car "swinging into oncoming traffic." The sports car slammed into the woman's BMW, knocking it onto the passenger side, and then clipped Wilson's vehicle before it crashed into a pole.

Pro golfer Bill Haas was a passenger in the Ferrari, but escaped the deadly wreck with leg contusions. He was hospitalized for treatment of his injuries, but has been released to return to his South Carolina home to recuperate.

The witness said the injured woman was crying and screaming and that Wilson took quick action to help her from the smoking wreck.
